Our History
The History of N.I.C.E.
In 1976, Narberth’s Mayor Jeff Eyster took over the day-to-day operation of N.I.C.E. from Emily and Kathryn. Jeff enlisted the help of another Narberth resident Constantine (Connie) Dydynsky, a retired railroad employee. Jeff and Connie planted many of the trees we now admire around the station.
After vacationing in Switzerland with his wife Clara, Jeff was inspired by the Swiss flair for decorating train stations with flowers. He then expanded the scope of N.I.C.E. to include all of Haverford Ave from the Northside station down to both sides of the tunnel and the Southside station and parking lot gardens. Jeff Eyster designed several other small garden areas and recruited Narberth resident volunteers to help maintain those gardens. Many Narberth residents have volunteered their time over the years.
